Student Shot at Warner Robins High School; 14-Year-Old Arrested

The arrest of a 14-year-old suspect could lead to adult prosecution under Georgia law.

Overview

  • The shooting occurred in a school restroom during a fight between ninth graders on Wednesday and prompted a code-red lockdown and a multiagency law enforcement response.
  • A school resource officer reached the wounded student, applied tourniquets, and the victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • The suspect fled on foot and was arrested about an hour later in a nearby neighborhood; he was identified as 14-year-old Denzelle Willis Jr. and has been charged in connection with the shooting.
  • At a first court appearance the judge denied bond and prosecutors signaled the case may go to a grand jury as soon as Tuesday, Aug. 18.
  • Warner Robins High School was closed for the rest of the week, crisis counselors were arranged, and officials said the district will review safety protocols that were practiced in drills the day before the shooting.
