Student Shoots Classmate in School Bathroom in La Matanza

Investigators will determine whether the seized Bersa .22 was fired accidentally as the wounded student has claimed.

Overview

  • The shooting took place Wednesday inside a bathroom at Escuela N°58 in Villa Dorrego, and an 18-year-old student was hit in the abdomen and a arm.
  • Teachers drove the injured student to Hospital Simplemente Evita where he was admitted for surgery and hospital staff recorded his initial account.
  • Police who arrived about five minutes after a 911 call detained a 17-year-old at the school and recovered a Bersa .22 pistol that the suspect had discarded.
  • The Comisaría Sur 4ª of Villa Dorrego is leading the probe and the case was referred to the juvenile prosecutor to establish how the weapon entered the school and whether the shooting was intentional.
  • Authorities say the wounded student’s claim that the weapon discharged while being shown is under investigation, and officials expect updates on his condition and any charges once forensics and witness statements are complete.
