Stripe-Owned Privy Brings Embedded XRPL Wallets to Apps

The integration lets developers create policy-controlled XRPL wallets inside app logins, which could enable AI agents to pay for services if apps adopt clear recovery and funding flows.

Overview

  • Privy published XRPL support in mid-October, listing the ledger as a Tier 2 network that lets Privy decode and sign XRPL transactions while leaving transaction construction, broadcasting and post-signing flows to the app developer.
  • The embedded flow creates wallets during standard sign-in so users do not need seed phrases or browser extensions, but each new XRPL account still requires a 1 XRP reserve before it can transact.
  • Privy’s XRPL tooling supports XRP, RLUSD stablecoin and agent payment standards such as x402, and Privy documents server-side wallets for automated software payments.
  • Ripple reports agent payments have processed millions of small transactions on XRPL—roughly 13–14 million by recent counts—representing about a quarter of ledger activity, though the total value moved remains modest.
  • Real consumer impact depends on apps deploying the feature with clear recovery and export options, repeat active wallets, and reliable submission and support flows while institutional plumbing grows with moves like Standard Chartered’s RLUSD custody in Dubai.
