Stripe-Backed Tempo Opens Public Testnet for Stablecoin Payments

The test phase showcases stablecoin-paid micro-fees for predictable, instant settlement using dedicated payment lanes.

Overview

  • Tempo, built by Stripe and Paradigm, is now open for developers and enterprises to test stablecoin payment integrations on a live public testnet.
  • New partners include Mastercard, UBS, Klarna and Kalshi alongside earlier participants such as Visa, Deutsche Bank, Shopify, OpenAI and Nubank, with firms like Cross River Bank, Anthropic, Coupang and Coastal Bank also engaged.
  • The network features stablecoin-native gas, a fixed fee of about $0.001 per transaction and reserved blockspace for payments to avoid congestion and fee volatility seen on general-purpose chains.
  • Current operations use a rotating set of four team-run validators, with plans to onboard independent and partner validators before an eventual mainnet launch on an unspecified timeline.
  • Tempo confirmed integration of Chainlink CCIP and said more than 40 additional ecosystem partners have joined in recent months to provide wallets, custody, compliance, analytics and other tooling.
