Overview
- Japanese coach Meiko Okumatsu and Kenya’s Dennis Maragia were bitten on October 3 at the warm-up track during the World Para Athletics Championships.
- Both received on-site care and were taken to Safdarjung Hospital’s anti-rabies clinic for vaccination and treatment, and they were later reported out of danger.
- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has now stationed two dedicated dog-catching teams and vehicles inside the stadium, relocating captured dogs to shelter homes under welfare norms.
- Multiple reports said a stadium security guard was also bitten within about 30 minutes of the coaches’ injuries and described this as the fifth such incident during the championships.
- Kenya’s coach said he remained worried after the attack, claiming he still saw dogs at the venue and did not feel sufficient measures were in place.
