Stranger Things Finale Draws 1.1 Million RSVPs for New Year’s Theatrical-Streaming Debut

Seat reservations convert to concession vouchers, keeping the cinema release uncounted by box-office or Netflix metrics.

Overview

  • Ross Duffer said 1.1 million fans have RSVP’d, with roughly 3,500 showtimes already sold out across more than 620 theaters.
  • The footprint quickly expanded from an initial 350-plus venues to 500-plus and now 620-plus across major and specialty circuits including AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Harkins, Megaplex, Cineplex, Alamo and Landmark.
  • Screenings begin at 5 p.m. PT on Dec. 31 and continue through Jan. 1, aligning exactly with the finale’s Netflix release time.
  • Because the events are non-ticketed and use concession vouchers, there will be no recorded box-office and theatrical turnout will not be counted in Netflix viewership totals.
  • Deadline, citing EntTelligence, frames the 1.1 million RSVPs ahead of KPop Demon Hunters’ pre-sales and behind Demon Slayer’s admissions, and the Duffer Brothers hinted they may appear at a Los Angeles screening.
