Overview
- The national strike began on October 1, 2025 and has kept about 301 Nacional Monte de Piedad branches closed for more than seven months, leaving roughly 1,800 workers without regular pay.
- In late May the Secretaría del Trabajo y Previsión Social presented a formal conciliation plan that would be implemented as a single 'dictamen de solución' and decided by a general, direct and secret worker vote.
- The patronato formally accepted the STPS route and said it is ready to comply with the vote result and reopen affected branches if workers approve the proposal.
- A February federal amparo ruled the strike legally 'inexistent' in favor of the patronato but that decision is under review and could be taken up by the Supreme Court, which would likely prolong final resolution by many months.
- Customers are being told pledged items remain secured in vaults and custody fees are suspended, and the decisive next steps to watch are union leaders’ review of the STPS draft and whether a June vote is scheduled and carried out.
