Overview

  • The STPS guidelines took effect on July 17, obliging all employers to guarantee rest breaks and seating for staff standing more than three continuous hours.
  • All employers must perform job diagnostics to identify standing roles, assess risk levels and log findings in verification actas maintained by safety and hygiene commissions.
  • Ergonomic seating requirements cover lumbar and back support, adjustable height and armrests, stability and mobility features, and optional footrests based on risk evaluations.
  • While the regulations do not define exact rest intervals, companies must create active break programs and redesign workspaces to support posture shifts.
  • Noncompliance can trigger fines from 250 to 2,500 UMA per affected worker with federal inspections slated for the second half of 2025 and a compliance deadline on December 14.
