Overview
- Federal prosecutor Carlos Stornelli authorized an investigation into alleged illegal intelligence behind recordings attributed to Karina Milei and said he will not seek journalists’ sources or order searches.
- Civil and commercial judge Alejandro Maraniello previously issued a precautionary order prohibiting publication of audios recorded in the Casa Rosada attributed to Milei, a move denounced as prior restraint by three legal associations.
- After a Uruguayan streaming channel released clips that mention Chamber of Deputies president Martín Menem, Security Minister Patricia Bullrich said the Government will expand its complaint to that jurisdiction.
- The Government’s filing sought raids and seizure of equipment from named journalists and figures, including Jorge Rial, Mauro Federico, Pablo Toviggino and Franco Bindi, as well as consoles used by the Carnaval stream.
- Stornelli described the audios as presumptively illegitimate and part of a clandestine operation, with Judge Julián Ercolini now expected to define the next procedural steps.
