Storms Shut RN51 and Snarl RN68 in Salta as Orange Alert Persists

Crews will begin heavy clearing only after waters recede under an ongoing orange weather alert.

Overview

  • Vialidad Nacional ordered a total closure on RN51 between Campo Quijano and San Antonio de los Cobres due to debris on the roadway at points including El Mollar, Don Julio and La Berta.
  • Water and runoff are over sections of RN68 between La ViñaCoronel Moldes and La Merced–Sumalao, and drivers are urged to proceed with extreme caution.
  • The national meteorological service maintains an orange alert with forecasts of intense storms, possible hail, lightning, gusts above 90 km/h and 60–115 mm of rain with locally higher totals.
  • Road crews are monitoring affected corridors but are holding back heavy machinery until flows drop and weather conditions improve to avoid risking personnel and equipment.
  • Authorities report urban flooding, stranded vehicles on RN68 and temporary water-supply interruptions in localities such as La Caldera, and they advise avoiding nonessential travel and never crossing water-covered segments.
