Overview

  • Severe thunderstorms on June 18 dropped nearly 3 inches of rain in parts of Chicagoland and triggered localized flooding under a flood watch.
  • A drying trend on Thursday will bring highs in the low 80s before a high-pressure heat dome builds over the region.
  • From Saturday through Monday, temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-to-upper 90s with humidity pushing heat indices above 100°F.
  • If the forecast holds, this will be only the sixth time since 1871 that Chicago records three consecutive June days with highs above 95°F.
  • The city has designated public libraries as cooling centers and will open its 50 outdoor pools daily starting Saturday to help residents stay cool.
