Storms Forecast to Return to Buenos Aires This Weekend as Heat Eases

The weather service says a Patagonia cold front will break the heat, bringing a cooler and unsettled weekend.

Overview

  • SMN projects the AMBA will remain hot through Thursday, with highs near 31–32°C under partly cloudy skies.
  • Saturday in the AMBA carries a 10–40% chance of morning showers and isolated thunderstorms later, with a cooler high around 21°C and easterly winds up to 31 km/h.
  • Forecast guidance notes wind gusts could reach about 50 km/h Friday night and again Sunday, when skies are expected to stay mostly cloudy with low rain chances.
  • An extreme-heat episode continues elsewhere, with temperatures reaching 39–40°C in parts of Neuquén, Santiago del Estero, La Rioja and other provinces.
  • Meteorologists expect the hot spell to start easing from Friday as a cold front advances from Patagonia, increasing instability and spreading rain across central and northern Argentina over the weekend.
