Storm Warnings in Argentina as Mexico Transitions From Front 19 to a Stronger Front 20 and Colder Air

Officials urge precautions for flooding, damaging gusts, a sharp late‑week cold snap.

Overview

  • Argentina’s meteorological service keeps yellow alerts in place for the AMBA and parts of Buenos Aires, Mendoza, La Pampa, Neuquén and Río Negro, with isolated but intense storms, hail and gusts up to 70–80 km/h and 20–50 mm of rain.
  • In Mexico, Front 19 remains stationary over the eastern Yucatán with 25–50 mm downpours in Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, and is forecast to stop affecting the country by late Wednesday.
  • Front 20 is entering the north and northeast between Wednesday night and early Thursday, bringing 40–60 km/h gusts in Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas and setting up sub‑zero mountain lows that could reach −10 °C on December 12–13.
  • Moisture channels plus Pacific, Gulf and Caribbean inflow are driving showers from the west and center to the south and southeast of Mexico, including chubascos in Michoacán, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco and the Valley of Mexico.
  • A Norte event of 50–70 km/h in the Isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec with 1–2 m seas is expected, and authorities caution about flash flooding, landslides, falling trees, transport disruption and maritime hazards.
