Storm Manja Passes as Short Warm Spell Precedes Sharp Midweek Cooling

A Wednesday cold front will trigger a rapid temperature drop that raises the likelihood of ground frost.

Overview

  • Over the weekend Sturmtief Manja battered northern Germany with very strong winds, a North Sea storm surge and at least one reported collision in Bremerhaven.
  • Germany’s meteorological agencies issued graded warnings: the DWD warned of severe gusts up to about 100–110 km/h in exposed areas and the BSH forecast coastal water levels roughly 1 to 2 metres above mean high water in parts of the Weser, Elbe and north-frisian coasts.
  • After the storm a warm sector will bring unusually mild weather on Tuesday with local highs of about 20–21°C in southern and southwestern regions.
  • A cold front arriving on Wednesday will cut temperatures sharply and clear skies behind it will increase the risk of nighttime and ground frost toward the end of the week.
  • Some model runs show a possible long‑lasting high‑pressure block that could keep nights clear and cold into mid‑November, but forecasters say that outcome is uncertain beyond a three‑day window.
