Storm Goretti: GWR Halts All Cornwall Trains From 6 p.m. and Suspends ExeterOkehampton, ExeterBarnstaple

Precautionary closures follow Met Office wind warnings to protect passengers from debris, flooding, and high gusts.

Overview

  • Great Western Railway will suspend all services in Cornwall from 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, with the ExeterOkehampton and ExeterBarnstaple routes also stopping at that time.
  • Timetables across the GWR network are being revised, with disruption expected to continue until the end of Friday, January 9.
  • Replacement road transport will not operate because road conditions are also considered unsafe, and passengers are urged to travel earlier and avoid late afternoon or evening trips.
  • Further curbs include no services between Great Malvern and Hereford after 3 p.m., between Worcester and Great Malvern/Hereford from 7 p.m., and between Gloucester and Worcester after 6–7 p.m., with limited Gloucester–Cheltenham Spa trains continuing.
  • Tickets for affected journeys can be used earlier on Thursday or on Friday, early Friday services may be cancelled at short notice, and Network Rail teams are on standby for tree clearance, drainage checks, point heating, gritting, and tunnel inspections.
