Overview
- About 43,000 homes in the South West were without electricity at dawn, with roughly 14,000 out in the West Midlands and hundreds in Wales and the East Midlands.
- West Midlands Railway suspended all morning services, London Northwestern halted Birmingham–Liverpool trains, and Cornwall’s rail network remained shut after Thursday evening’s stoppage.
- Birmingham and East Midlands airports reopened after overnight runway closures for snow, while British Airways cancelled more than 50 flights at Heathrow.
- Amber and yellow Met Office alerts remained in force for snow, wind, rain and ice, with 10–15cm of snowfall expected widely and up to 30cm on higher ground in Wales and the Peak District.
- Fallen trees forced a closure of the A30 in Cornwall, the coastguard reported containers lost off the Isle of Wight, and floods triggered evacuations and a confirmed storm-related death in Albania.
