Storm Claudia Floods Parts of Spain as Argentina Faces Severe-Storm Alerts

Some Spanish regions de-escalate flood alerts, with a very cold air mass set to drop temperatures sharply next week.

Overview

  • Andalucía logged more than 620 weather-related incidents since Thursday, with the regional government activating PERI level 1 in Huelva after a flash flood in Nerva and a collapse cutting the A-476 road in Sevilla province.
  • In Córdoba, firefighters conducted over 100 interventions and rescued families from flooded parcelaciones, while 112 reported vehicle rescues in Pedro Abad and Palma del Río after sudden inundations.
  • Aemet reported exceptional rainfall totals in Córdoba province, including 173.8 mm in Espiel and 166 mm at Córdoba-Guadanuño, as rare small vortex phenomena known as tubas were observed in Pedro Abad and La Carlota.
  • Extremadura lowered its INUNCAEX alert from situation 1 to 0 as conditions eased, and forecasters expect a marked temperature drop with frost potential and low snow levels later in the week.
  • Argentina’s meteorological service issued orange and yellow alerts across multiple provinces for storms capable of 40–80 mm of rain, hail, and gusts over 90 km/h, with early impacts including flooding, fallen trees, and disrupted travel in Paraná and strong wind advisories for Santa Fe, Rosario, and the Buenos Aires metro area.
