Storm Claudia Flooding Closes Hereford–Newport Line, Strands Passengers

Disruption is expected to continue into Saturday with only limited replacement capacity.

Overview

  • Transport for Wales closed the Hereford–Newport route after heavy rain and flooding, with Network Rail also shutting a section of the Marches Line on safety advice.
  • West Midlands Railway suspended services between Hereford and Worcester to protect passengers, and no rail replacement buses were provided for that route.
  • Limited replacement services are operating where possible between Hereford, Shrewsbury and Newport, but capacity is restricted and return journeys are not guaranteed.
  • Passengers with valid tickets can use Avanti, CrossCountry and Great Western Railway services at no extra cost, and tickets for Friday and Saturday can be used on Monday, November 17.
  • Crowds gathered outside Hereford station as cancellations mounted, including services to Cardiff Central and Fishguard Harbour.
