Overview
- Amber rain warnings are in force from midday to midnight for parts of central and southern England and South Wales, with wider yellow alerts for rain and wind across much of England and Wales.
- Forecasters expect 60–80mm of rain widely and up to 150mm on higher ground in Wales, with some places seeing roughly a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours.
- More than 100 flood alerts and several warnings have been issued, with the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales deploying teams and preparing flood defences.
- Rail operators including Avanti West Coast, Northern, CrossCountry and others are running reduced timetables, applying speed restrictions and cancelling services, and passengers are urged to check before traveling or avoid non‑essential journeys.
- Gusts up to 70mph in exposed western and northwestern areas, along with possible thunderstorms, raise risks of power cuts and fallen trees, and safety groups advise never driving through floodwater and to prepare emergency kits.
