Storm 'Alice' Floods Ibiza and Mallorca, Halts Flights as Spain Deploys Military

Authorities have kept weather alerts in place, with military teams assisting drainage and power restoration.

  • Airport operator Aena reported 24 flight cancellations on Ibiza and 19 on Mallorca after floodwater entered terminals and forced a one-hour runway shutdown on Ibiza.
  • Emergency services and the Guardia Civil worked through the night, and the Spanish military was sent from the mainland to support large-scale pumping and cleanup.
  • A lightning strike on Formentera knocked out a power cable, leaving 576 households without electricity, with about 300 additional outages across Menorca, Ibiza and Mallorca.
  • The state weather service Aemet warned of torrential rain totals up to 300 liters per square meter and a tornado risk, with Orange alerts on Ibiza, Formentera and parts of western Mallorca and Yellow warnings elsewhere.
  • Flooding hit tourist zones including Port de Pollença, Cala Romantica, Cala Mandia and Porto Cristo, and rockfalls were reported in the Tramuntana range, including a large boulder blocking the Sa Calobra road.
