Stolen Mandolins Returned to N.J. Music Shop With Note Claiming Thief Was Drunk

Teaneck police say the case remains open as they work to identify the suspect.

Overview

  • Surveillance footage from December 22 showed a man concealing two mandolins under his parka before leaving Lark Street Music.
  • The instruments were later left at the shop’s door in shopping bags with a note reading, “SORRY, I BEEN DRUNK, MERRY CHRISTMAS. You are good man.”
  • Owner Buzzy Levine briefly chased the person who dropped them off, then called 911 after losing sight of him.
  • The store credited widespread sharing of the surveillance clip with pressuring the return of the instruments.
  • The mandolins were valued at about $3,500 and $4,250, and police say no arrests have been made.
