Stockton Police Link Arrested 23-Year-Old to Two August Homicides

Police are preparing additional homicide charges after tying the suspect to a second killing this month.

  • Detectives identified Walter Burgess, 23, as a suspect in an Aug. 30 shooting and arrested him during a Gang Street Enforcement Team traffic stop.
  • Burgess was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of homicide related to the Aug. 30 attack near Albany and Astor drives.
  • The 18-year-old victim in that case was found with multiple gunshot wounds and died at a hospital on Sept. 16.
  • Police said Burgess is also suspected in the Aug. 21 fatal shooting of a 19-year-old woman near Anderson Park on North El Dorado Street.
  • Authorities have not released victim identities or a possible motive, and the homicide investigations remain active.
