Overview

  • Stiftung Warentest tested 29 citrus lemonades for taste, packaging, sugar content and contaminants.
  • About three quarters of the drinks contained approximately 7 to 9 grams of sugar per 100 milliliters, reaching WHO’s daily limit in two glasses.
  • Fanta Orange and Fanta Zero Sugar Orange exceeded EFSA’s chlorate safety thresholds linked to impaired iodine uptake.
  • Fritz Limo Orange, Lidl Freeway Orange and Vio Bio Limo Orange were the only products to earn an overall good rating.
  • Chlorate residues from chlorinated water treatment and equipment disinfection can pose thyroid risks for children and iodine-deficient individuals.
