Stellantis Unveils $13 Billion U.S. Manufacturing Plan to Reopen Belvidere, Add 5,000 Jobs

The four-year package reflects a pivot toward localized production under U.S. tariffs.

Overview

  • Stellantis says the outlay will lift U.S. output by 50%, launch five new models and support 19 refreshes through 2029, adding more than 5,000 jobs.
  • More than $600 million will reopen Belvidere, Illinois, to build Jeep Cherokee and Compass for the U.S. from 2027, with about 3,300 hires and the Compass shift from Brampton, Ontario.
  • Nearly $400 million will move an all-new midsize truck to Toledo, Ohio, targeting a 2028 launch and creating over 900 jobs.
  • Michigan updates include a range-extended EV and a large gasoline SUV at Warren Truck from 2028, the next Dodge Durango in Detroit in 2029, and Indiana’s Kokomo starting GMET4 EVO engine output in 2026.
  • The package bundles earlier commitments and remains subject to state and local incentive deals, drawing praise from the UAW and pushback from Canadian officials as analysts highlight its limited emphasis on pure EVs.
