Stellantis Partners with Ample to Integrate Swappable Battery Technology

Initial Program to Begin in Madrid with a Fleet of 100 Fiat 500e Models

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has partnered with San Francisco-based startup Ample to integrate swappable battery technology into its fleet of rental electric vehicles.
The initial program is set to begin in Madrid, Spain in 2024 using a fleet of 100 Fiat 500e models within Stellantis' Free2move car sharing service.
Ample's battery swapping stations can replace a discharged battery with a freshly charged one in just five minutes.
Ample has 12 charge stations in San Francisco and plans to build nine more in Madrid.
Stellantis and Ample are also exploring the possibility of battery swapping for private owners.
