Stellantis Partners with Ample to Integrate Swappable Battery Technology

Initial Program to Begin in Madrid with a Fleet of 100 Fiat 500e Models

  • Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has partnered with San Francisco-based startup Ample to integrate swappable battery technology into its fleet of rental electric vehicles.
  • The initial program is set to begin in Madrid, Spain in 2024 using a fleet of 100 Fiat 500e models within Stellantis' Free2move car sharing service.
  • Ample's battery swapping stations can replace a discharged battery with a freshly charged one in just five minutes.
  • Ample has 12 charge stations in San Francisco and plans to build nine more in Madrid.
  • Stellantis and Ample are also exploring the possibility of battery swapping for private owners.
