Overview
- The Playmaker debuted on July 4 at Aviva Studios – Factory International as the centerpiece of the Manchester International Festival’s Football City, Art United exhibition.
- Designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti with ground graphics by Eduardo Terrazas, the installation features three cylindrical modules animated by circular apertures that link each miniaturized playing field.
- Co-curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Josh Willdigg and Juan Mata and developed by Factory International, the project unites 11 artists and 11 footballers to blur the lines between sport and contemporary art.
- Visitors can attempt to recreate Sandro Mazzola’s iconic goals or devise new ones in an interactive game of movement, precision and strategy.
- Surrounded by thematic works from figures such as Eric Cantona and Edgar Davids, The Playmaker will remain on view through August 24.
