Steelers Add Bentley, Hodgins, Sokol as Loudermilk Goes on IR, Leal Promoted

The additions address depth following early defensive lapses before the trip to New England.

Overview

  • Pittsburgh signed LB Ja'Whaun Bentley, WR Isaiah Hodgins and TE Matt Sokol to the practice squad following Tuesday workouts, the team announced Wednesday.
  • To make room for the new additions, the Steelers released TE J.J. Galbreath and WR Rakim Jarrett from the practice squad.
  • Defensive lineman Isaiahh Loudermilk was placed on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain, and DL DeMarvin Leal was signed to the active roster.
  • Bentley, a former Patriots captain with three straight 100-tackle seasons prior to a 2024 pectoral tear, arrives as Pittsburgh seeks help for a run defense allowing 149.5 yards per game and leading in missed-tackle rate through two weeks.
  • Bentley said he chose Pittsburgh over other teams, giving the Steelers a veteran option they can elevate as needed for Sunday’s game at New England.
