Steam Adds Achievement Sets in Client Beta

The system preserves completion records by separating base-game, DLC and seasonal achievements; developers must opt in through Steamworks.

Overview

  • Valve pushed Achievement Sets into the Steam client beta on Oct. 15–16, making the redesigned achievements page and friend-comparison tools available to testers.
  • Developers can group a game’s achievements into named sets that each show their own progress bar and award a visible “set complete” trophy that stays earned if new achievements are later added.
  • Studios can archive individual achievements or whole sets for seasonal or time-limited content so players who already unlocked them still see them but latecomers are not blocked from completing a game.
  • The updated achievements UI shows overall and per-set progress, improved search and filters, and lets players compare progress, rare achievements and completed sets with up to three friends.
  • Wider benefit depends on developers manually adding sets via Steamworks and on beta refinements, and observers warn the changes could shift profile metrics and enable FOMO if archived or seasonal sets are misused.
