States Run Special Voter Drives as ECI Drops SIR Declaration

The change is meant to simplify registration and bring voters left out of the Special Intensive Revision onto the rolls ahead of upcoming elections.

Overview

  • Rajasthan reported more than 57,000 Form‑6 applications for new registration over a seven‑day special drive, officials said on Wednesday.
  • The Election Commission has removed the extra declaration introduced during the Special Intensive Revision for Form‑6 and Form‑8 in states where SIR is complete to simplify paperwork for new registrations and corrections.
  • Keralam's CEO ordered a statewide enrolment drive on October 5 and directed digital help desks at village offices from October 15 to October 31 plus a week‑long 'Campus to Booth' college and higher‑secondary drive starting November 2.
  • Applicants may use official online portals (voters.eci.gov.in, ECINET, Citizen Service or the Voter Helpline app) or submit forms through Booth Level Officers, and Keralam requires one of 12 approved ID/address/age documents with an extra supporting document when using Aadhaar.
  • Electoral Registration Officers have been told to reconcile the roll effective January 1, 2025 with the roll before recent Assembly polls and to review uncollected SIR applications so Booth Level Officers can complete household verifications before names are finalised.
