State Takeover of Houston ISD Extended Through June 2027

Morath said HISD must fulfill the state’s exit criteria before announcing a return to elected leadership.

  • Morath removed four appointed Board of ManagersAudrey Momanaee, Cassandra Auzenne Bandy, Rolando Martinez and Adam Rivon—and installed Edgar Colón, Marty Goossen, Lauren Gore and Marcos Rosales in their places.
  • HISD cut its D- and F-rated campuses from 121 in 2023 to 41 in 2024, while A- and B-rated schools grew from 93 to 170.
  • District conservator reports show HISD met 100% of initial special education evaluation timelines and completed 99% of committee meetings and student reevaluations during the past academic year.
  • Superintendent Mike Miles plans to lead the district through the intervention and is expected to remain beyond his current contract, which expires in August 2026.
