State Patrol Grappler Halts Erratic I-25 Driver Near Larkspur

  • Douglas County deputies responded Friday around 9:35 a.m. to reports of a car hitting the median at about 75 mph on I-25 near Castle Pines.
  • A deputy pursued the vehicle southbound toward Larkspur while keeping other motorists out of harm’s way, according to the sheriff’s office.
  • Douglas County requested a Grappler unit but none were close, so the Colorado State Patrol dispatched a trooper equipped with the device.
  • The trooper deployed the Grappler to stop the car near Larkspur, and the driver was taken into custody without injury; authorities have not released the driver’s identity or possible charges.
  • The Grappler uses front-mounted cables to latch onto a vehicle; CSP says it has 26 units statewide and 72 successful uses since August 2021, and the developer cites more than 50 agencies and over 600 grapples nationwide.
