State of Mexico Prosecutor’s Office Launches Unit for Rapid Complaint Handling

The newly formed 496-member team will undergo specialized training to ensure victims secure timely, sensitive access to justice

Overview

  • The FGJEM formally created the Unidad de Cercanía Social y Atención Pronta a la Denuncia on August 11, with publication of its founding agreement expected soon
  • The unit comprises about 496 public servants, including 221 prosecutors, 100 hires from June’s convocation, 132 orienters and 143 administrative staff
  • All personnel must complete a rigorous sensitization and values reinforcement program to align their work with victims’ needs and reduce harm from delays
  • Assignments will focus on justice centers in municipalities with the highest rates of complaints to reverse institutional refusals and backlogs
  • Its launch follows President Sheinbaum’s call for reforms and the preventive detention of three family members linked to the 5-year-old ‘Fernandito’ kidnapping and killing
