State of Mexico Approves Transit Fare Hike to 14 Pesos Starting Oct. 15

The decree conditions the increase on operator upgrades with exemptions for seniors and young children.

Overview

  • The Mobility Secretariat published the measure in the state gazette and Mobility Secretary Daniel Andrés Sibaja confirmed the new 14‑peso minimum for the first 5 km, with an extra 0.25 pesos per additional kilometer and rounding to 0.50 allowed.
  • A differentiated mixed-service tariff sets an 11‑peso base for the first 10 km in 27 southern and rural municipalities, with the same per‑kilometer surcharge thereafter.
  • People with an INAPAM credential will keep a 12‑peso fare and children under five will travel free, according to the official agreement.
  • Concessionaires must display authorized fare tables, train and certify drivers, renew units, carry valid insurance, and implement service improvements such as video surveillance.
  • Mobility collectives called a protest in Toluca on Oct. 12 under #NoAlTarifazoEdomex, as reports indicate some operators began charging higher fares ahead of the Oct. 15 start date.
