State Memorial for Former B.C. Premier John Horgan Scheduled for December 15
The public memorial will honor Horgan's political legacy and contributions, following his death at 65 after battling cancer.
- The provincial state memorial for former B.C. premier John Horgan will take place on December 15 at the Q Centre in Colwood, near Victoria.
- Horgan passed away on November 12, 2024, at the age of 65, following his third bout with cancer, including a recent diagnosis of thyroid cancer in June.
- The service will feature religious elements led by Rev. Dr. Keith Howard, musical performances, and speeches from dignitaries, including Premier David Eby and Lt.-Gov. Janet Austin.
- Horgan served as B.C.'s premier from 2017 to 2022, leading the NDP to a majority government in 2020 and enacting significant affordability and crisis management policies.
- After stepping down as premier, Horgan was appointed Canada's ambassador to Germany in 2023 but took medical leave earlier this year.
