State Government Shifts Monsoon Emergency Works to HYDRAA
HYDRAA is set to complete the tender process for monsoon emergency works within a week following complaints of irregularities in GHMC contracts.
Overview
- The State government issued orders on June 9 transferring monsoon emergency works, disaster management and urban flooding responsibilities from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to HYDRAA.
- The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency will oversee tasks including de-clogging catch-pits, dewatering operations, post-monsoon desilting, nala safety audits, traffic diversions and removal of fallen trees.
- GHMC will continue to handle all pre-monsoon preparations despite losing emergency and flood management duties.
- Officials cited recent allegations of irregularities in GHMC’s tendering process as the primary reason for reallocating these responsibilities.
- Residents in Ameenpur’s Dargah area have reported repeated flooding from drain encroachment, and complaints have also surfaced over the shrinkage of Langar Houz lake due to unauthorized construction.
