Mulroney passed away at age 84 in a Florida hospital following a recent fall at his Palm Beach home.
He is celebrated for initiating new trade relations with the U.S. through the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Mulroney's environmental achievements include leading a global treaty to protect the ozone layer and signing a pact to reduce acid rain pollution.
He also played a key role in ending apartheid as part of the Commonwealth and was the first western leader to recognize an independent Ukraine.
