The State Department is accused of funding the Global Disinformation Index (GDI) and NewsGuard, which allegedly suppress the speech of disfavored press outlets.
The lawsuit also alleges that the State Department is using the Global Engagement Center (GEC), originally a counterterrorism agency, to coordinate efforts to silence speech.
The lawsuit seeks a court declaration that the State Department's funding and promotion of internet censorship tools is unconstitutional and an order for it to end.
