Starmer to Attend Westminster Abbey Service Marking 85 Years Since the Battle of Britain

He frames the commemoration as a reminder of shared values.

Overview

  • The Westminster Abbey service is scheduled for Sunday from 11am to noon to mark the 85th anniversary.
  • Starmer says the anniversary reminds the country of duty, sacrifice and national unity.
  • After the service he is due to watch the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which usually features a Lancaster bomber with a Spitfire and a Hurricane.
  • The Prime Minister is expected to meet the Dean of Westminster, Squadron Leader Charlie Warden, the Lord Lieutenant of Greater London and the Chief of the Air Staff, with RAF Marshal The Lord Craig also listed to attend.
  • The commemoration honors RAF pilots and aircrew from the 1940 campaign, the first decisive battle fought entirely in the air.
