Stanford Pitcher Throws 156 Pitches to Stave Off Elimination

Stanford pitcher Quinn Mathews pitched a complete 9 innings, threw 156 pitches, and struck out 16 batters to lead Stanford to an 8-3 win over Texas in Game 2 of the Stanford Super Regional.
Mathews has thrown over 100 pitches in 15 of 17 starts this season and now has 152 strikeouts on the year, fourth-most in school history.
Stanford has won 13 straight elimination games at home dating back to 2018.
Monday's Game 3 winner will advance to the College World Series for the third straight year.
Mathews was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays last summer but returned for his senior season at Stanford.
