Overview
- Standard Chartered rolled out deliverable Bitcoin and Ether spot trading for eligible institutional clients through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch, an expansion announced on Sept. 3 that brings execution to its UAE digital-asset stack.
- Trades are deliverable, meaning clients receive the underlying BTC or ETH rather than derivative exposure, and institutions may settle with a custodian of their choice including Standard Chartered’s DFSA‑licensed UAE custody service.
- The service is offered under the DIFC and regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority, and the bank says it is the first Global Systemically Important Bank to provide institutional crypto spot trading in the UAE.
- Standard Chartered has integrated crypto execution into its existing electronic and foreign‑exchange trading channels so clients can use familiar workflows, building on a trading model the bank first launched in the UK in July 2025.
- The launch joins the bank’s broader digital‑asset strategy — custody, collateral arrangements and tokenization through ventures like Zodia Markets and Libeara — and coincided with a modest uptick in Standard Chartered’s stock as investors priced the expansion.
