Stalin Urges Centre to Bridge Fertiliser Gap for Tamil Nadu's Samba Season

The state cites a looming November urea spike following the northeast monsoon onset.

Overview

  • Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin wrote to Union Minister J. P. Nadda seeking directions to ensure timely fertiliser supply for Samba sowing.
  • Against the state's proposal, current central allocations stand at 6.50 LMT urea, 1.50 LMT DAP, 1.80 LMT MOP and 5.14 LMT NPK.
  • The requested quantities are 6.94 LMT urea, 1.93 LMT DAP, 1.88 LMT MOP and 5.15 LMT NPK, implying shortfalls of 0.44 LMT urea, 0.43 LMT DAP, 0.08 LMT MOP and 0.01 LMT NPK.
  • Stalin asked that fertiliser companies be instructed to match the state’s November needs, noting farmer interest in expanding paddy acreage.
  • The letter also thanks the Centre for Kharif 2025 supply, citing iFMS receipts of 99% urea and substantial DAP, MOP and NPK deliveries alongside state measures that boosted paddy output.
