Overview

  • On May 31, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin led a 20-kilometre roadshow through Madurai to mobilise party workers and signal the formal launch of the 2026 campaign.
  • The DMK general council convened on June 1 in Madurai for the first time in 48 years and approved a door-to-door membership initiative targeting enrolment of at least 30% of voters at each polling station.
  • In his address, Stalin accused the AIADMK of coming under BJP influence and warned that a BJP-led alliance could threaten Tamil Nadu’s autonomy, education and cultural identity.
  • The council endorsed an organisational shake-up, including appointments for new deputy general secretaries and the creation of two party wings aimed at youth and informal-sector workers to boost outreach.
  • Backed by its alliance partners, the DMK set a goal of winning over 200 out of 234 Assembly seats and resolved to mark M. Karunanidhi’s birth anniversary as 'Classical Language Day' to honour its cultural heritage.
