Stacey Abrams' Brother-in-Law Arrested on Human Trafficking Charges

Jimmie Gardner, previously exonerated for sexual assault, now faces charges for allegedly attempting to engage a minor in commercial sex acts.

Jimmie Gardner, brother-in-law of former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, has been arrested on charges of human trafficking in Tampa, Florida.
Gardner is accused of attempting to engage a 16-year-old girl in commercial sex acts at a hotel, and allegedly became physically violent when she refused.
He was previously convicted in 1987 of sexual assault against two women in West Virginia, and was exonerated in 2016 after serving 27 years.
Gardner is currently detained in Hillsborough County jail without bond.
Gardner's wife, Leslie Abrams Gardner, has been a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia since 2014.
