St. Petersburg Sets Torch Lightings and Bridge Illumination for Siege Breakthrough Anniversary

City officials pledge dedicated transport for veterans alongside on-site medical care.

Overview

  • On January 18, the Rostral Column torches will burn twice, from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 19:00 to 22:00.
  • The Palace, Trinity, and Betancourt bridges will be lit in the colors of the Leningrad Victory Ribbon from 16:45 on January 18 until 09:30 on January 19.
  • The Rays of Victory light installation will operate over Victory Square from 16:45 on January 18 to 09:30 on January 19, with searchlights set on buildings at 207 and 224 Moskovsky Prospekt.
  • The city confirms torches will also be lit on January 27 for the 82nd anniversary of the blockade’s end, with 177 planned events including wreath-layings on Nevsky Prospekt and at major memorial cemeteries and a concert at BKZ Oktyabrsky.
  • District administrations will bring veterans to and from events in heated buses with a medical worker accompanying each trip.
