St. Pauli Beat HSV 2–0 as Police Hail Peaceful Night

The first top-flight meeting in 14 years drew about 57,000 fans to an electric Volksparkstadion.

Overview

  • Adam Dźwigała scored in the 19th minute and Andreas Hountondji added a second after the hour, with an HSV effort by Ransford Königsdörffer disallowed for offside.
  • Hamburg police deployed more than 1,900 officers with reinforcements from several states and the federal police and later called the event largely peaceful.
  • Organized marches of roughly 7,500 HSV supporters and about 3,500 St. Pauli fans reached the stadium without major incidents, including at the Bornkampsweg/Stresemannstraße crossing.
  • Officers recorded identities for isolated offenses and cordoned a group of HSV ultras on Hans-Albers-Platz before escorting them to the Reeperbahn S‑Bahn.
  • HSV captain Yussuf Poulsen and coach Merlin Polzin voiced sharp disappointment and said the team must adjust to the higher Bundesliga standard.
