St. Paul Crews Fight Three Structure Fires in 90 Minutes

Rapid, overlapping calls forced crews to split resources, produce urgent rescues and leave multiple households displaced while causes are probed.

Overview

  • Three separate structure fires occurred within roughly 90 minutes on Saturday afternoon at the 1800 block of Magnolia Avenue East, the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue East, and the 100 block of Elizabeth Street East.
  • Firefighters contained the first blaze to a single apartment unit and reported no injuries with early signs pointing to unattended cooking as a possible factor.
  • Crews made an interior rescue at the second fire, removing an adult woman and a female toddler who were taken to a hospital, and one firefighter suffered minor injuries.
  • The third fire heavily involved a single-family home, forcing crews to fight from the exterior to protect neighboring houses; occupants were away and four dogs were reported unaccounted for.
  • The St. Paul Fire Department says all three causes remain under investigation and Interim Chief Gregory Duren II praised crews for rescues, exposure protection and keeping city emergency service running during the multiple calls.
