St Martins School Extends Closure Through Week After Fire Damages Roof and Key Facilities

Investigators are examining rooftop solar equipment as a possible source, with no suspicion of arson.

Overview

  • Headteacher Alison Pope said the school will remain shut to all pupils until at least Friday, with a phased return dependent on securing contractors and restoring utilities.
  • The arts centre, dining area and surrounding sections sustained the main fire and smoke damage, while water, electrics and the fire alarm system were affected elsewhere on site.
  • Drone imagery showed significant roof damage and multiple destroyed solar panels, with local reports indicating roughly 20 panels were burned.
  • More than 80 firefighters from Shropshire and North Wales deployed eight pumps, an aerial ladder platform, and a drone to contain the blaze; no injuries were reported.
  • Shropshire Council and the 3–18 Education Trust are coordinating recovery and education continuity as Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service conducts a full investigation.
