Overview

• On the night of August 8, Amptmeyer collapsed during a police department hockey game at Midwest Training and Ice Center in St. John.
• Officers, bystanders and first responders performed CPR at the rink and at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital but were unable to revive him.
• Amptmeyer began his law enforcement career with the Gary Police Department in 2005, later served with Dyer PD and joined St. John PD in 2018, rising to commander of the Northwest Regional SWAT Team.
• Colleagues and community members have paid tribute to his leadership and mentorship of young officers.
• He was a devoted father whose daughter was the focus of his personal life.
