SSI Beneficiaries to Receive Double Payments in December

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will receive two payments in December due to a quirk in the payment schedule, with the second payment including the cost of living adjustment (COLA) for 2024.
The first payment, scheduled for December 1, can be up to $914 for individual beneficiaries, while the second payment on December 29 will be slightly higher, with the new maximum set at $943.
The COLA for 2024 is 3.2% higher than in 2023, affecting both the SSI payments and regular Social Security checks for retirees.
Regular Social Security payments for retirees are separate from SSI payments and are sent out on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of every month.
The long-term future of Social Security is uncertain due to the risk of insolvency, predicted to occur as early as 2034.
