SSC Sets CGL Tier 1 for Sept. 12–26, Rolls Out Security and Fairness Reforms

The overhaul follows widespread technical failures in the July–August cycle that forced postponements and retests.

Overview

  • The computer-based Tier 1 will screen candidates for 14,582 Group B and C posts with objective sections in reasoning, awareness, quantitative aptitude and English.
  • Tier 2 will be conducted in a single shift, and Tier 1 scoring will use a new shift‑wise normalisation formula introduced from July 2025.
  • Exam centres will be allotted within 100 km of candidates’ addresses, with the commission targeting more than 90% nearby allocations.
  • Responsibilities are split across four specialised agencies for centres, security, applications and content, while SSC directly oversees question‑paper design.
  • Aadhaar-based authentication remains mandatory, and SSC will use upgraded monitoring, re‑audited centres and hardware standards to prevent malpractices.
